About The Collection
More than a decade ago, my yoga practice brought me to experience an acute awareness of the voices inside my head. On my mat, when everything quieted down, I could hear them, loud yet seldom clear, singing to me.
Over the years, I started to exercise my actual voice to let them out. I quickly discovered that letting the voices out of my head brought more depth and intimacy to my relationship with other humans. Meaningful conversations (that’s that deep sh*t of the universe) encouraged emotionally rich connection to like-minded individuals that greatly enhanced my life. I also realized: we all live with the voices. We are more alike than different.
Early in 2017, at the climax of my corporate career, disenchanted by my inability to activate the change I wanted to see around me and feeling a responsibility to authentically and unapologetically express myself, I needed another channel for the voices inside my head. Talking was no longer enough. In an attempt to prose with my vérité, I wrote the IBM Seduction Series and published the stories on LinkedIn.
The response was surprisingly and overwhelmingly positive. Apparently, I was a writer. Evidently, my voice touched others, provoked new thoughts. I felt a contentment for respectfully speaking my truth, a gratification from living in alignment and integrity and aspiration to inspiring others.
I put my run at my corporate-ladder-climbing on hold in late 2017. Now dancing with a new reality, I needed to take time to investigate and create the career experience I wanted for myself. Yet, I still needed a creative vehicle for the voices: TheVoicesCollection.com was born.
For the first three months of my discovery year, with friends and family as my audience and the intent to keep them up-to-date while exercising my creative muscles, I mostly wrote about my experiences and travels. I unexpectedly found something so much more important than my need for a creative outlet: others wanted to join me to in sharing their stories, in exploring their voices. Wow.
Today, The Collection serves as a digital platform for others to express their voices. These individuals make up The Voices. We value radical candor; express emotive human stories to create connection rather than division and competition; seek to explore the power of our individuality in community; provoke thought to encourage dialogue about central topics to the experience of being humans; all in hopes to enhance our life, break some rules and spark the change we crave.
